Philippa Carr / Victoria Holt
Eleanor Alice Burford Hibbert, meglio conosciuta dai suoi lettori come Victoria Holt, Philippa Carr e Jean Plaidy, è stata una delle più amate e seguite scrittrici del mondo. La sua carriera, che si è dipanata per cinque decadi e che le ha valso l'appellativo di regina della "romantic suspance", è iniziata nel 1947 con una serie di romanzi storici scritti come Jean Plaidy, ma è dopo il 1960, quando pubblica il primo romanzo d'amore di genere gotico con lo pseudonimo di Victoria Holt, che conosce il vero successo. Inizia così a scrivere tre romanzi all'anno, due romanzi come Pleiady ed uno come Holt, fino al 1972, anno in cui decide di aggiungerne un quarto con il nome di Philippa Carr. Nata a Londra nel 1906 e morta nel 1993, ha pubblicato oltre duecento titoli utilizzando una mezza dozzina di pseudonimi: oltre a quelli già citati ricordiamo Elbur Ford, Kathleen Kellow, and Ellalice Tate.
